Have you accessed the Union House Prayer Room reecently?

A low-risk asbestos issue on the storeroom door located inside the prayer room was recently repaired. Minor damage was identified on the interior handle of the storeroom door. The door was identified as containing friable (soft, crumbly or loose fibres) asbestos.

Asbestos is a building material widely used in Australia until the mid-1980s and was banned in 2003.

The area has been decontaminated, the damage has been repaired, and testing has confirmed that there is
no ongoing risk to people using the space.

Although the risk to anyone who accessed the area before the repair is considered low, contact the HR Service Centre at hrservicecentre@adelaide.edu.au if you entered the storeroom before 26 November 2025, or if you have concerns.
